Tulane’s TIGRE Training Program in MCH Epidemiology
The Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine is currently accepting applications for a new program in Maternal and Child Health (MCH) epidemiology. The Training in Global Reproductive Epidemiology (TIGRE) grant is a pre-doctoral training program in reproductive, perinatal and pediatric epidemiology. The funding is provided by the NIH T32 grant mechanism and is administered by Tulane’s Center for Evidence-Based Global Health and the Department of Epidemiology.
Major perinatal health issues, such as preterm birth and maternal mortality, persist while new challenges, such as increased obstetrical interventions, emerging infectious diseases, and natural and manmade disasters, have arisen. The TIGRE grant will prepare a new generation of scientists to use the most advanced research methods to address women’s and children’s health issues, both domestically and internationally.
Trainees will work closely with a Tulane epidemiology mentor, as well as other faculty in maternal and child health, international health, and tropical medicine, when appropriate. Each trainee will complete at least one three-month rotation in an international setting.
The grant provides tuition for up to three years of study, as well as a living expenses stipend, health insurance, and travel and conference expenses.
Students planning to conduct research in pediatric, perinatal or reproductive epidemiology are encouraged to apply. All candidates must meet the epidemiology department’s standard admission requirements.
