Public Health Branding Coalition Meeting

On Tuesday, representatives from over 20 national public health organizations met in Washington, DC to develop a framework for creating a recognizable brand for public health. This meeting was a follow up to a meeting held in August 2008, during which there was agreement that a brand for public health should be developed for use by all public health organizations and would compliment current promotion and marketing initiatives.

At Tuesday’s meeting, the representatives shared research their respective organizations had done on perceptions of public health. Two common themes of research were the need to personalize the message and to focus on the more general aspect of public health.

The coalition agreed upon a timeline for the development process and will meet again in early December.

The organizations which sponsored the meeting were:

  • Association of Schools of Public Health;
  • American Public Health Association;
  • Association of State and Territorial Health Officials;
  • National Association of County and City Health Officials; and
  • Society for Public Health Education.

Other organizations in attendance included:

  • Alliance to Make US Healthiest;
  • Association of Public Health Laboratories;
  • Centers for Disease Control and Prevention;
  • National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors;
  • National Association of Local Boards of Health;
  • National Indian Health Board;
  • National Library of Medicine;
  • Public Health Leadership Society;
  • Research!America;
  • Robert Wood Johnson Foundation; and
  • Trust for America's Health.
