ASPH/CDC Environmental Health Scholarship Program Announces Recipients
ASPH and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Center for Environmental Health (NCEH) are pleased to announce the recipients for the 2009 ASPH/CDC Environmental Health Scholarship Program. Six doctoral-level students have been selected to receive scholarships of $25,000 each for the 2009-2010 academic year.
Scholarship recipients will have the opportunity to pursue their doctoral-level studies while receiving guidance and input from CDC experts in two key areas of study: the relationship between public health and community design; and, the relationship between public health and climate change.
Community Design Scholarship recipients include:
- Ms. Estela Almanza, PhD candidate, University of California, Berkeley School of Public Health;
- Mr. Andrew Duvall, PhD candidate, Colorado School of Public Health; and
- Ms. Lee Hurt, DrPH candidate, George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services.
Climate Change Scholarship recipients include:
- Ms. Joyce Klein-Rosenthal, PhD candidate, Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture Planning and Preservation;
- Dr. Sumiko Mekaru, ScD candidate, Boston University School of Public Health; and
- Ms. Colleen Reid, PhD candidate, University of California, Berkeley School of Public Health.
