NBPHE Announces 2009 Cohort of Certified in Public Health Professionals
The National Board of Public Health Examiners (NBPHE) recently announced the award of its Certified in Public Health (CPH) credential to over 250 qualifying professionals. The CPH exam was administered for the second time both in the U.S. and in international locations during August 8-29, 2009. Candidates who passed the exam have been notified, and are acknowledged as being Certified in Public Health on the National Board of Public Health Examiners web site at www.publichealthexam.org.
“Those individuals who chose to challenge themselves by taking the Certified in Public Health exam demonstrate a profound dedication to the profession of public health and to maintaining a level of excellence in their efforts to advance the health of communities around the world,” said Dean Donna Petersen, chair of the National Board of Public Health Examiners and dean of the University of South Florida College of Public Health.
The NBPHE was established in 2005 to develop a voluntary credentialing exam for graduates who earn masters or doctoral degrees from schools and programs accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health. Successful examinees demonstrate they have mastered core and cross-cutting competencies of public health and they elevate recognition of public health as a health profession. Employers hiring CPH individuals will be assured that these candidates have a fundamental breadth and depth of core public health knowledge.
