Upcoming PHR Web Cast: Surveillance for STDs in the United States—April 30, 2010
On Friday, April 30 at 1 p.m. (Eastern) Public Health Reports will host a “Meet the Author!” web cast, titled “Surveillance for STDs in the United States,” based on two articles in the journal's 2009 supplement on HIV surveillance. Presenters include Dr. Nicholas Gaffga, medical epidemiologist, Epidemiology and Surveillance Branch, Division of STD Prevention, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; and Dr. Cornelis Rietmeijer, professor, department of community and behavioral health, Colorado School of Public Health, University of Colorado Denver.
Dr. Gaffga will give an overview of public health surveillance for STDs in the United States and discuss some of the challenges that exist and the usefulness of enhanced collection, reporting, and interpretation of information. Dr. Rietmeijer will present the experiences and lessons learned of implementing and conducting the STD Surveillance Network, a multi-site, national sentinel surveillance system for sexually transmitted infections.
