Dr. Julie Gerberding and Dr. Barbara Staggers to Receive Honors from UC Berkeley
On April 16, two School of Public Health alumnae will receive honors from the campus as part of the festivities surrounding “Cal Day” (UC Berkeley’s annual open house) and the inauguration of Robert J. Birgeneau as UC Berkeley's ninth chancellor.
Dr. Julie Gerberding, director of the CDC, will be awarded the California Alumni Association’s Excellence in Achievement Award, which was presented to her at UC Berkeley’s Charter Banquet held in San Francisco. Dr. Gerberding will also present a lecture on campus titled, “Are We Ready? The Fight Against Avian Flu, Bioterrorism and Other Public Health Threats.”
Dr. Barbara Staggers, board-certified pediatrician and adolescent medicine specialist, will receive UC Berkeley’s Peter E. Haas Public Service Award. Chancellor Robert J. Birgeneau will present the award to Dr. Staggers at his State of the Campus address. Dr. Staggers will also present a lecture titled, “Straight Talk About Adolescents—It's About Life.”
