ASPH to Hold Hill Briefing on Confronting the Public Health Workforce Crisis—February 27, 2008

The Association of Schools of Public Health (ASPH) recently completed an assessment of the public health workforce shortage crisis and is hosting a briefing to present the findings and recommended actions. The briefing, which will be held Wednesday, February 27 from 1-2 p.m. (ET), will include an Expert Panel that will discuss significant health and safety impacts and what needs to be done to address those needs.
Public health doctors and nurses, epidemiologists and health care educators and administrators work to protect people from communicable diseases, prevent environmental hazards and chronic diseases and help communities prepare for disasters. Leading experts agree that there are not enough trained public health workers today and there will be even less tomorrow if no action is taken.
The Expert Panel will include:
- Dean Linda Rosenstock
University of California at Los Angeles School of Public Health
Director of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (1994-2000)
- Dean Ciro Sumaya
Texas A&M Health Science Center School of Rural Public Health
Director of the Health Resources and Services Administration (1994-1997)
- Commissioner Earl Hunter
South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control
- Dean Michael Klag
Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health
The briefing will be held at United States Capitol Room S-120. Please RSVP to Mr. Michael Kenny at (202) 448-9572 or by E-mail at mjkenny@cgagroup.com.
