ASPH Associate Deans for Academic Affairs Hold First Webinar on Global Health Education
The ASPH Associate Deans for Academic Affairs held their first webinar, entitled "Perspectives on Global Health Education." Approximately forty-five participants logged on from the U.S. and Mexico to engage with three guest speakers who shared insight from their respective institutions on efforts being made to bring Global Health Education into the spotlight of public health programs. Dr. Ian Lapp, associate dean for academic affairs and education at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, served as the moderator.
The webinar featured the following presenters and topics:
- Dr. Stephen Gloyd, professor of Global Health and Health Services at the University of Washington School of Public Health
"Global Health Jobs and Competencies"
- Dr. Laura Magaña-Valladares, associate dean for academic affairs at the Instituto Nacional de Salud Publica
"The Global Health Perspective and Strategies at the INSP"
- Dr. Margaret E. Bentley, professor of nutrition, associate dean of global health and associate director of the Institute for Global Health & Infectious Diseases at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) Gillings School of Global Public Health
"Globalizing the Curriculum in the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health: Process and Challenges"
This webinar was intended to serve as a prelude to the 2009 Associate Deans’ Retreat in Denver, CO from June 14–17. Since not all priority topics could be addressed at the in-person gathering, the webinar format was used for the first time to bring together associate deans and others around this priority topic area.
Special thanks go out to staff at the UNC Gillings School of Global Health for hosting the webinar and to Dr. Ian Lapp for organizing and moderating the session.
